I came across a powerful story on YouTube that moved me, it’s not just about spirituality, but also about psychology and the ways we sometimes drift away from reality. It reminded me of dissociation, that hollow, frozen state we slip into when life feels overwhelming.
And now, in a world lit by screens, Insta stories, and endless scrolling, technology often deepens that disconnect, pulling us further from the present moment even as we search for meaning within it. Maybe that’s why this story felt worth sharing.
The Parable of the Drowning Man.
There was a man who was stuck on a rooftop.
As floodwaters rose all around him, He prayed with all his heart and might for God to save him.
Soon, a small boat came by. “Hop in!” the man in the boat said.
The man shook his head. “No, God will save me.”
Later, a speedboat came. “Get in! The water’s rising fast!”
“No thanks,” the man refused again. “God will save me.”
Finally, a helicopter was above the roof. “Grab the rope!” someone shouted.
“No thanks,” the man shouted back. “God will save me.”
The water kept rising.
He drowned.
Standing before God, he cried, “Why didn’t You save me?”
God said:
“I sent you a boat, another boat, and a helicopter…
You chose to drown.”
Deeply spiritual people often receive visions, but when there’s a growing disconnect from reality or little action in the here and now, it may be because they’re struggling to feel safe and grounded. That’s why it’s so important to pause, let go of assumptions, and communicate openly, anchoring yourself back to reality.
